“I found the chord progression for this while practicing piano during lockdown. After finding one melody in the middle of the verse I built the rest of the song around that. Even though it was lockdown inspired, I think that the message of being better off alone rings true beyond its initial inspiration. Sometimes that’s just how we feel, and you may need the time alone, but how much time is enough before you’re climbing up the walls?”
lyrics
I can hide away for days at a time
Even weeks, I just find that I’m better off alone
These weeds are overgrown
But I’m so much better off alone
An excuse, a reason to hide away
Finding ways to pass the time while I’m locked inside my mind
You may think that something’s wrong
But I’m just so much better off alone
What’s the reason?
What’s the rhyme?
This is crazy, but I’m not losing my mind
What do you do to pass the time?
I’m not lazy
I’m just protecting my kind
You can call me on the phone
But I’m just so much better off alone
It’s alright, it’s okay, are the things you’ll hear me say
As I climb up the walls, but it’s not that far to fall
These thoughts are not my own
I’m just better off alone
What’s the reason?
What’s the rhyme?
This is crazy, but I’m not losing my mind
What do you do, to pass the time?
I’m just looking for a way to shine
So please don’t pick up
Cuz I’m so much better, off alone
